About the Lighting Research Center

  The Lighting Research Center (LRC) is    part of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute    of Troy, N.Y., and is the leading    university-based research center    devoted to lighting. The LRC offers the    world's premier graduate education in    lighting, including one- and two-year    master's programs and a Ph.D.    program. Since 1988 the LRC has built    an international reputation as a reliable    source for objective information about    lighting technologies, applications, and    products.                  IESNA Hands Out Honors

The Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) has bestowed awards on standout professionals and/or students in the world of lighting.

And the recipients are?

Peter Boyce, professor of architecture and Human Factors program leader in Rensselaer's Lighting Research Center (LRC), for his 35 years of contributions to the lighting profession. Specifically, he was honored for "meritorious technical achievement that has conspicuously furthered the profession, art or knowledge of illuminating engineering."

Ian Lewin, Ph.D., FIES, received the Louis B. Marks Award "in recognition of exceptional service to the society of a non-technical nature." He is president and CEO of Lighting Sciences, Inc. of Scottsdale, Arizona.

The "Fellow" designation is bestowed in recognition of valuable contributions to the IESNA's technical activities. Two fellows were named: Nadarajah Narendran, Ph.D., Director of Research at the Lighting Research Center, Troy, New York Jennifer Veitch, Ph.D., Senior Research Officer, National Research Council, Ottawa, Canada

Patricia Hunt won the Distinguished Service Award, which is presented to those who have significantly furthered the IESNA mission in non-technial areas. She is a senior associate/lighting designer with Hammel, Green and Abrahamson in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The Taylor Technical Award, recognizing a paper detailing research work which furthers the application knowledge of lighting practice, was granted to four individuals for their paper, Development of a Metric to Quantify Beam Quality of Reflectorized Lamps,, which is available as a downloadable, PDF-formatted file. The recipients were:

The Presidential Award is granted to recognize exceptional service to the society during the president's term of office. Recipients were:

The Howard Brandston Student Lighting Design Education Grant was given to Hyo-Jeong Lee of Parsons School of Design, New School University. This award is given to recognize and encourage students who have shown high professional promise by developing an original and ingenious solution to a supplied lighting design problem.
